Invasive Species

yellow-flag-iris

Yellow flag iris is one of the invasives that is growing in the Shuswap lake Delta and Salmon River area. It has naturalized from people’s gardens and can form a dense mat of rhizomes, out-competing native vegetation and reducing the quality of wetland habitats.

Description:
Large yellow flower with broad, sword-shaped leaves. It is most easily identified when in bloom.
Yellow flag is the only iris to inhabit wetland areas.  Find out more about this plant and other invasive plants at the Columbia Shuswap Invasive Species Society website.

CSISS maximizes the probability of detection and eradication of new invasives by raising public awareness and delivering invasive species workshops.
